I
The Cyber Threat Landscape in India
⚠️ Why This Matters
"जागरूकता ही सबसे बड़ी सुरक्षा है"
India is Among the Most Targeted Nations Online
With over 900 million internet users, India faces millions of cyber attacks daily. Most victims are ordinary citizens — not the technically uninformed — but the psychologically unprepared.
15.6L+

💡
Awareness is PreventionMost cybercrime succeeds through deception, not advanced hacking. Knowing the tricks is your strongest defence.
II
OTP & Banking Fraud
🏦 Banking Safety
Your OTP is the Key to Your Vault — Guard it.
No bank, no government officer, no KYC agent will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, or CVV. If someone does — it is a crime in progress.
🎭 Real Scam Script
"Namaste ji, main SBI helpline se bol raha hoon. Aapka account suspend ho raha hai. Ek OTP aayega — woh mujhe batayein, warna ₹50,000 kat jayenge."
🚨 Red Flags
Creates panic — "turant," "abhi," "2 minute mein"
Threatens block, fine, arrest, or legal action
Asks to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or any screen-sharing app
Requests card number, CVV, net banking password
✅
Your Action: Hang up immediately. Call your bank directly using the number printed on your debit/credit card. Never call back on the number that called you.
III
Fake Police & "Digital Arrest" Fraud
👮 Impersonation Fraud
The Fake Police Video Call — "Digital Arrest"
Criminals create fake virtual police stations on WhatsApp/Skype video calls. They wear uniforms, display forged ID cards, and threaten victims with "digital arrest" — a term that has no legal existence in Indian law.
🎭 How It Works
"Your Aadhaar is linked to a drug trafficking case / illegal SIM card. You are under digital arrest. Pay ₹2 lakh in 1 hour to settle the matter — or face real arrest."
📵
"Digital Arrest" Does Not ExistNo court, no law, no police force in India has the power to "arrest" you via video call. It is pure fiction.
📞
Verify via 100 — IndependentlyDial 100 or visit your nearest police station to verify any claim. Do not call back the number that called you.
👨👩👧
Break the SecrecyScammers say "don't tell your family." That command is your clearest warning sign. Tell a trusted person immediately.
💸
No legitimate officer demands payment to drop a caseIf someone does — it is bribery and extortion. Report it.
IV
Job Fraud & Investment Scams
💼 Job & Money Fraud
"लालच बुरी बला है — ऑनलाइन भी"
Too-Good-to-Be-True Offers Are Traps
Fake job portals, WhatsApp groups promising "daily earnings," and "double your money in 7 days" crypto schemes have defrauded lakhs of Indians — especially youth and homemakers.
🎭 Common Traps
"Data entry job — earn ₹30,000/month from home, no experience needed. Pay ₹2,000 registration fee to start." — or — "Invest ₹10,000, get ₹50,000 in 7 days via our trading app."
⚠️ Warning Signs
Any job asking you to PAY a registration/security fee upfront
Promises of unrealistic returns (50%, 100%, "guaranteed profit")
Recruitment via WhatsApp only — no verifiable company address
Asks for Aadhaar, PAN, or bank details "for salary processing" before any work
"Like & Subscribe" task-based earnings that suddenly need a deposit to "unlock" payout
🔍
Verify First: Google the company name + "fraud" or "review". Check MCA21 portal for company registration. Legitimate employers never charge you to give you a job.
V
Romance Scams & Social Media Fraud
💔 Romance Fraud
The Emotional Manipulation Playbook
Romance scammers build fake identities — often military officers, doctors abroad, or successful NRIs — and spend weeks or months building emotional trust before asking for money.
🎭 The Script
"I am a doctor serving in the US Army. I have fallen deeply in love with you. I need ₹1 lakh urgently to fly to India to meet you / for a medical emergency / to release my gold from customs."
🖼️
Reverse-Search Profile PhotosDownload their photo and search on Google Images. Stolen photos from celebrities or real soldiers are commonly used.
🎥
Insist on Live Video CallScammers avoid live unscripted video. If someone refuses — or the video quality is suspiciously poor — be very suspicious.
💰
Money Requests = Red Flag, AlwaysAny online contact who asks for money — regardless of how long you have known them online — is likely a scammer.
💬
Sextortion Warning: If someone has intimate photos/videos of you and is threatening to share them, do NOT pay. Report immediately to cybercrime.gov.in and call 1930.
VI
Phishing Links & Fake Apps
🎣 Phishing
Fake Links & Apps Steal Silently
Phishing messages mimic real brands — IRCTC, SBI, Amazon, TRAI — to trick you into entering your credentials on fake websites. Fake UPI and loan apps steal contacts, photos, and banking data.
🎭 Real Example
"Your SBI account KYC expires today. Click to update: bit.ly/sbi-kyc2024 — else account will be suspended." OR "Win iPhone 16! You are today's lucky visitor. Click to claim."
🔗
Check the URL Before ClickingReal banks use their official domain (e.g., onlinesbi.sbi). Any variation — sbi-kyc.com, sbi-update.in — is fake.
📲
Download Apps Only from Official StoresNever install APK files sent via WhatsApp or SMS. Use Google Play Store or Apple App Store only.
🔔
Check App PermissionsA flashlight app does not need access to your contacts or SMS. Deny unnecessary permissions.
🏆
You Have Not Won AnythingUnsolicited prize messages are 100% scams. You cannot win a contest you never entered.
VII
